Unmanaged switches have been a staple in many home networks for years as they allow a higher level of flexibility due to their simplicity. They just work, without needing certifications in Cisco, Juniper or CompTIA and allow an end-user to expand their network up to 24 ports plug and play. Businesses leverage both the cost savings and plug and play nature of these switches to seamlessly upgrade their existing infrastructure to gigabit speeds.

The GS116PP is the latest and greatest in Netgear's revamped Unmanaged Business Switch lineup. This new solution is part of a larger lineup of offerings that include two 8 port models, the LP supporting a 60W PoE Budget and PP model at 123 watts. On the 16 port models, we too have an LP supporting 76 watts PoE budget and the unit in-house, the GS116PP a peak of 183 watts. All models support 30w per port, are flexible in mounting options with rackmount ears and desktop feet included while the chassis allows for wall mounting. Further, Netgear has designed all models with a built-in PoE power selector switch to allow for interchangeable power adapters that can be used to control the PoE power available on the switch.

MSRP of the Netgear GS116PP comes in at $219.99 with a lifetime warranty.

Packaging offers an image of the switch down below and performance specifications in several languages. Netgear also makes note of their switch prowess to the left. Along the bottom, we have notes of 183-watt support and the lifetime warranty and model number to the far left.

Included in the box, we have a massive power adapter, nearly the size of the switch capable of producing 200w 54v at 3.7a. To the right,, we have the desktop feet and mounting hardware for the rackmount ears.

The switch itself takes advantage of a slim design, all 16 ports inline. To the left, we have LEDs for power and PoE power. Each port has its own LED to denote both connectivity and PoE mode.

The backside is mostly blank with a Kensington lock slot to the far left and power input to the far right.

A closer look near the power input is the PoE power selection switch. By default, this solution is setup for 200w.

Internally, the GS116PP uses a heat sink design on both of the main controllers, 8 transformers setup 2 ports per IC.

Netgear doesn't mention the full switch throughput in the specifications, we should have 32Gbps at Full Duplex. The GS116PP does support the 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard along with Jumbo frames,4K MAC Table and 1M packet buffer. Dimensions come in at 286,102,27mm or 11.2" x 4" x 1". Weight is 0.88kg or 2lbs with a 2 million-hour MTBF or roughly 23 years.
